Fapping ???

When did this become Fapping????

  1. Actually, the word fap has existed in English for a long time meaning drunk to the point of befuddlement, as in Shakespeare's "Merry Wives of Windsor":

Bardolph: Why, sir, for my part I say the gentleman had drunk himself out of his five sentences.

Sir Hugh Evans: It is his five senses: fie, what the ignorance is!

Bardolph: And being fap, sir, was, as they say, cashiered; and so conclusions passed the careires.

It's more recent meaning that refers to masturbation, its usage is somewhat different. Fap is an internet neologism, an intransitive verb referring to the act of male masturbation, whose sound is imitative of the associated slapping of testicles against the body. Fapping refers exclusively to male masturbation.

English is in constant flux always in an effort to minimize effort. Personally, I still prefer the old standby: Jacking off. Those who wish to minimize the effort of speech reduce two words to one.

    1. Manga. ふぁっぷ is a common onomatopoeia for masturbation. It's in hiragana because it's essentially background noise while your dudes' cries of オーン would be katakana. Louder and more punctuated.

  2. I knew someone would know. So in the effort to make it easier to talk about jacking off, they went to a more sophisticated word, in a sense.

    1. In a sense, yes. Something that would pass the thought police of polite society, so to speak.
